Gabriel Rozsa

ROZSA, Gabriel, 91, of Wintersville, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Sienna woods.

He was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Steubenville. He is the son of the late Gabor and Helen Vincze Rozsa,

Gabriel was preceded in death by two sisters Helen Butcher, Anna Kuruc and one infant brother, Alex.

Gabriel was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he taught CCD classes for 30 years and was retired from the former USDA Soil Conservation Service

Gabriel is survived by his Wife of 65 years, Irene (Laposki) Rozsa whom he married on June 5, 1948, and 10 children: Irene Moore (Dale) of Hopedale, Patricia Cornelius of Greer, SC, Mary Lou Linville (John) Franklinton, NC, Helen Grimm (Jerry) Steubenville, Gabriel Rozsa (Ginny) Wooster, OH and Veszprem, Hungary, Catherine Woods (Ed) Bloomingdale, James Rozsa (Beth) Harrisburg, NC, John Rozsa (Liz) Orchard Park, NY, Kevin Rozsa (Debbie) Silver Lake, OH, Lisa Poole Wintersville, OH. Also, James E. Brundage (Hinckley, OH), a very special member of this family, 25 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.

Gabriel is also survived by his brother and six sisters, Joseph Rozsa of Smithfield, OH, Mary Nemeth of Weirton, WV, Elizabeth Kuruc of Richmond, OH, Frances Piccolomini (Angelo) of Philadelphia, PA, Margaret Fodor of Martins Ferry, OH, Barbara Grantonic (John) of Youngstown, OH, Katie Grantonic (Ed) of Mingo Junction, OH.

Gabriel for many years played Santa Claus for many local families and their children and was Farmer Brown on the former wstv radio show. Gabriel was a member of the Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club, Soil Conservation Society and was a member of the K of C #472

Calling hours are Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Fr. William Cross, celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service at 3:45 p.m. Sunday.
