NORFOLK, Va. - The man accused in the March 9 shooting death of Yorkville native Kristopher Klubert was scheduled for a preliminary hearing today in Norfolk General District Court in Norfolk, Va.
Austin T. Greening, 22, a native of Wisconsin, is accused of fatally wounding Klubert, according to reports.
Greening has been free on a $25,000 bond since mid-March.
Both men were on active duty in the Navy at the time of the incident. They were due to ship out on a new deployment the morning after Klubert was found dead, according to reports. Both had been assigned to the USS Carter Hall and were friends, according to officials.
According to police reports, a 911 call was placed at about 7 p.m. on March 9 saying a man had been shot and was lying, wounded, in a street in a residential section of Norfolk.
Klubert was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Greening's apartment is located close to the site where Klubert's body was found, officials added.
