PIEDMONT - The 4-H Camp Piedmont will be open to the public Aug. 4 in celebration of its 65th year serving the public. Visiting will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with a free picnic lunch of hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad and birthday cake served until 3 p.m., according to Janine Yeske, Jefferson County 4-H educator.
Visitors are encouraged to to bring the family and enjoy a day outdoors with swimming, kayaking, canoeing and walking in a beautiful area. Copperhead Rock is a favorite hiking destination and fishing can be enjoyed in the lake for those with a current fishing license and fishing equipment.
Alumni to the camping experience can bring memorabilia to put on display in the dining room or come and reminisce with friends made over the years.
A book with the history of Piedmont will be available to order at the cost of $10, Yeske said.
A special auction will be held in the camp dining hall at 3 p.m., hosted by Dave Jones, auctioneer. Brad Paisley, popular country music artist from the Tri-State Area who served as a disc jockey at Piedmont Camp as a teen, has donated one of his hats, T-shirts and a signed 8-by-10 photo to be auctioned for the benefit of the camp fund.
A special piece of art has been donated for auction by local artist Dave Barnhouse, local artist, to go on auction. Several items and gift baskets also will be available for the high bid.
