Riders seeking cheerleading coach

WEIRTON - Weir High School is taking applications for the head cheerleading position and one assistant cheerleading position. For information, contact Athletic Director Mike DelRe at (304) 670-7916.

Creek soccer to hold car wash

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek boys soccer team will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Arby's. Donations are appreciated and will be used for various expenses for the coming season.

Eckleberry's to run camp

NEW MANCHESTER - The Eckleberry Basketball Camp of Champions will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 5-8 and is open to those entering grades 3-8. It will be held at Oak Glen Middle School. The cost is $55 per person and includes a camp T-shirt.

Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 5.

The camp will be run by Jenna and Payden Eckleberry.

Edison to host breakfast

STEUBENVILLE - The Edison football team will host a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at Applebee's. All-you-can-eat pancakes and drink are $5. Tickets may be purchased presale or at the door. Proceeds benefit the play to participate program for the team. Contact an Edison football player for presale tickets.

Tennis clinic to be held

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Tri-State Tennis Association is offering a free beginner's tennis clinic from 9 a.m. to noon for those ages 9-14 at New Cumberland City Park on July 27. The clinic will include basic instruction of stroke techniques as well as footwork drills and games. Rackets will be provided if a child does not have one.

Water will be provided as well but you may also want to bring your own drink. Instruction will be taught by Tammi Brown and a group of volunteers from Tri-State Tennis Association. Brown is a USPTA certified teaching professional with 20 years experience.

The goal of this clinic is to promote tennis in the Tri-State area. For information, call (304) 224-8298.

Adults sought for softball benefit

FOLLANSBEE - The Follansbee Softball League seeks players for an adult co-ed softball tournament July 27 to benefit the Barretts, an Oklahoma family who lost their home in the recent tornado.

A cash prize will be awarded based on the number of teams that sign up. The entry fee is $100. For information, call Mike Frye at (304) 374-3016.

The game was inspired by ongoing efforts by Vito's 2 and the Follansbee Chamber of Commerce to help the family.

Golf tournament to be held

EAST SPRINGFIELD - The Dave Smith Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 18 at Spring Hills Golf Course.

Cost is $280 per foursome and includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and beverages. Proceeds will benefit the Steubenville Catholic Central golf team. The team handicap must be 40 or over.

Pizzoferrato game to be held

MINGO JUNCTION - The eighth-annual Brian Pizzoferrato Memorial Baseball Game will be held at noon on July 27 at John Muth Field. This game pits former Mingo High School baseball players against former Steubenville Catholic Central players. All proceeds go to Brian's son, Ronnie.

Road Runners place fifth

COLUMBUS - The Road Runner Elite U18 travel softball team went 4-3 and placed fifth in the Stingrays College Showcase Tournament.

For the season, Steubenville Catholic Central's Micca Mirabella is hitting .284 with 14 runs scored, 10RBIs, six steals and three doubles.

Crusaders teammate Madeline Gulan is batting .280 with 17 RBIs with 15 runs scored, four doubles, two triples and a homer.

Central's Ashlynne Daley recorded an RBI single and scored two runs in the tournament.

Venom place third

The Ohio Valley Venom finished in third place in the U14 Beast of the East tournament. It finished with a 5-2 record.

Toronto's Danny Zdinak represented the team in the skills competitions, finishing second in the Golden Arm and he tied for third in the Home Run Derby. The Venom will participate in the Pony Sanction Tournament July 26-28.

The team members are: Brandon Waugh, Bryce Piatt, Chris Mazar, Cory Barrett, Danny Zdinak, Devin Donaldson, Domanick Michael, Dom Rogers, Keenan Seditz, Nolan Clegg and Zac Sacripanti. Team Manager is Bill Waugh with assistant coaches Don Donaldson, Mort Piatt, and Jon Sacripanti.

Vinson off to college

MORRISVILLE, N.C. - Richard Chandler Vinson IV will continue his academic and athletic careers at Southeast Missouri State University. He is the son of Del Vinson and grandson of the late Richard and Annie Lee Vinson Jr. of Steubenville.
