Husband charged with kidnapping

STEUBENVILLE -Paul Clayton, 38, 416 Rosslyn Blvd., was charged with kidnapping and domestic violence early today after he allegedly tied up his wife and gagged her.

Police Chief Bill McCafferty said officers responded to the Clayton home and assisted Linda Clayton, who left and went to a friend's house.

Paul Clayton was booked into the Jefferson County jail today.

Man charged in domestic incident

BEECH BOTTOM - A village man has been charged with domestic assault, cruelty to an animal and wanton endangerment following an incident Saturday night at his home.

The charges were filed against Chad E. Griffith, 42, of Jones Lane, Beech Bottom, by the Brooke County Sheriff's Department for allegedly deliberately striking his girlfriend's dog with a vehicle and pointing an unloaded pistol at her.

According to police reports, the woman told sheriff's deputies she grabbed the gun from him because he was reaching for bullets.

The dog's condition wasn't clear from the reports. According to the reports, Griffith threatened to harm the woman if the deputies didn't arrest him.

Griffith's case is pending in Brooke County Magistrate Court.

Electrical fire extinguished

STEUBENVILLE - City firefighters smothered a small electrical fire with a fire extinguisher in a residential breaker box Sunday afternoon at 2409 Sunset Blvd.

The residents reported hearing a pop and the basement was filled with smoke.

Assistant Fire Chief Frank DeLeonardis reported the fire was quickly extinguished and the house was ventilated.

He said the electrical service was disconnected at the house until the breaker box can be inspected.

Saddle club to meet, horse show set

RICHMOND - The Steubenville Saddle Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the club grounds on state Route 152 to finalize plans for the third show of the 2013 season, which will be held Sunday, with classes beginning at 9 a.m.

The final show of the four-show season will be held Sept. 1.

Membership in the club is open to anyone. An annual membership for a family is $25; $15 for an individual; and $10 for a youth. For 2013 memberships, checks can be made payable to the Steubenville Saddle Club and mailed to SCC, P.O. Box 431, Richmond, OH 43944.

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the club grounds. The club is in its 66th year. Debbie Grimes is the club president.
