Touch of Class to present ‘Once upon a Mattress’

STEUBENVILLE - Steubenville High School is the site of a second musical theater production of the summer as a part of the Touch of Class program.

"Once upon a Mattress," under the direction of Scott Wolodkin and the vocal direction by Abby Andresen, tells a magical tale of the "Princess and the Pea" with a few medieval twists, according to Wolodkin.

The musical will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the high school auditorium.

Audience members can follow Prince Dauntless, played by Deshea Pendergrast, on his quest to find a true princess suitable for him and his scheming, obnoxious mother, Queen Aggravain, played by Theresa Hancock. An unlikely arrival, the charming, yet clumsy Princess Winnifred, played by Elayna Andres, arrives at the distaste of the Queen and quickly wins the heart of Prince Dauntless. Her efforts to pass the Queen's royalty test are aided by Dauntless; the lovers Lady Larken, played by Abby Taylor, and Sir Harry, played by Phillip Stoutz; a traveling minstrel, played by John Boyle; the castle jester, played byGeena Diomedi; and the mute king, played by Ryan Ledakis.

The cast includes Alex Isla as the Wizard; and Melissa Magyer, Marissa McAllister, Loren Gray, Nyasha Jones, Lucy Falls, Annie Nehrbas, Isabella Colflesh, Meg Cutler, Natori Wicker, Jessica Kerr, Nicole Prichard, Erin Barnhouse, Caeli Welker, Micaela Stoutz, Katie Slivka, Brooke Sutherland, Madison McCalister, Ashlee Taylor, Deanna DiCarlo, Amanda Nodianos, Joey Nodianos, Noah McAllister, Joe Dubois, Dominic DiCarlo, Seth Kenefick, Michael Gault, Jacob Walker, Carlee Dillon, Launastasis Pernick, Alaina Walker, Hannah Stoutz, Mia Harris, Lexie Murray, Kennedy Shelton, Hannah Hoover, Corissa McCalister, Dyan Nay, Izzie Biasi, Maura Stoll, Maria Roscoe, Lexi Biasi, Kaitlyn Gaughan, Rhiannon Petrisko and Glory Dami.

"Once Upon a Mattress" is a family friendly show appropriate for any age, according to Wolodkin.

All seats are $10 and will be available in advance and at the door.

The box office will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Steubenville High School Commons.
