Man injured after jumping from car

STEUBENVILLLE -The Ohio State Highway Patrol is trying to determine why a man jumped from a moving vehicle on county Road 42 early Saturday morning that left him with serious injuries.

The patrol reported Charles Vantilburg, 43, of 306 Freeman St., Toronto, was in a vehicle with three other people when he told them he was going to jump from the moving vehicle. Vantilburg opened the door and jumped out, a trooper said.

Vantilburg was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, Patricia L. Starkey, 44, of 58 Pacemaker Plaza, Toronto, was charged by the patrol with operating a vehicle under the influence.

Shoplifting leads to police chase

STEUBENVILLE - A woman and a female juvenile were arrested Sunday evening after a shoplifting complaint led to a police chase, City Police reported.

Officers were called to Kroger around 8:33 p.m. Sunday about shoplifters. Police were told two females were in a car on DiGregroy Boulevard. An officer tried to block the vehicle in but it drove around the cruiser and turned right onto Sunset Boulevard, police reported.

Police chased the car on Sunset Boulevard, down the Market Street ramp, where the car turned onto South Fifth Street and ran several stop signs.

Police reported the car stopped in a gravel lot in the 300 block of South Fourth Street.

Angela L. Butler, 39, of 605 McDowell Ave. was charged with petit theft, obstructing police business, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, expired operator's license and two counts of reckless operation.

A female juvenile was charged with petit theft, obstructing police business and possession of marijuana.

Township trustees reschedule meeting

MINGO JUNCTION - The Steubenville Township trustees have rescheduled the monthly meeting for 6 p.m. Tuesday due to the holiday. The meeting had been scheduled on Thursday.

Water service to be disrupted

WINTERSVILLE - Water service to customers of the Jefferson County Water and Sewer District who are south of Meridian Greene will be disrupted Tuesday while crews relocate a water line at the Jefferson County Airpark.

There also will be a 24-hour boil order for the village beginning at noon Tuesday.
