Mingo Junction council to meet

MINGO JUNCTION - Mingo Junction Village Council will meet at 2 p.m. Monday to discuss the village building's roof.

Wells Township ready to celebrate

BRILLIANT -Wells Township will celebrate Independence Day on Wednesday.

Activities will include free swimming at the municipal pool from noon to 6 p.m. with free hot dogs, pop and chips. A bike and pet parade will begin at 5 p.m. at the pool and will feature trophies for first, second and third places in each category.

Members of the American Legion, Brilliant Volunteer Fire Department and the Wells Township Police Department will raise the flag at 7:30 p.m. at the Buckeye North Elementary football field, followed by a concert featuring the Original Fantasy's.

Concessions will be provided by the Brilliant Little League, with 4-H members selling snow cones and cotton candy. Face-painting and a bounce house also will be part of the festivities.

The evening will conclude with fireworks. The rain date will be July 5.

Edison sets special meeting

RICHMOND -The Edison Local Board of Education will meet in a special work session 5:30 p.m. July 9 in the Edison High School library prior to its regular meeting at 7 p.m. to discuss the upcoming school district levy.

Township trustees to meet July 10

BLOOMINGDALE - The Wayne Township Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. July 10 at the township garage on county Road 26.

The board will consider adoption of the 2014 fiscal budget.

Edison board names new board member

HAMMONDSVILLE - The Edison Local Board of Education has appointed John Prokopakis to fill the seat vacated by Larry Crow in June. Prokopakis will begin his duties July 9.

City Building hours to expand Monday

FOLLANSBEE - Beginning Monday, the Follansbee City Building will open an hour earlier, at 8 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Calls to the building through (304) 527-1330 will be answered at that time.

City Manager John DeStefano said the change was made in an effort to better assist residents.

The City Building is among government offices that will be closed Thursday for Independence Day.
