Kitchen fire reported Saturday morning

STEUBENVILLE - A fire at 1047 Main St. Saturday morning resulted in the kitchen of the residence being destroyed and heavy smoke and heat damage, according to the city fire department.

Firefigters were called to the residence at about 2 a.m. Saturday to find the fire already partially extinguished, according to reports.

Fire crews examined the structure and extinguished hot spots, according to the department. The fire was determined to have been caused by a grease, although it's still under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the Jefferson County Unit of the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the dweller, according to reports.

Buckeye Local announces screening

CONNORVILLE - The Buckeye Local School District will hold a screening during the week of June 10 for all children entering Early Childhood Education.

The screenings will start at 9 a.m. at Buckeye Local High School.

Any child entering Early Childhood Education, formerly known as pre-school or kindergarten for the first time this fall should bring all necessary forms including a birth certificate, a complete shot record and social security card to Buckeye Local High School.

Registration forms will be accepted on June 10 starting at 9 a.m. A screening time will be given at that time.
