MTR names COO as acting president

CHESTER - MTR Gaming Group Inc. chief operating officer Joseph L. Billhimer has been named acting president.

Chester-based MTR announced Billhimer's appointment on Thursday in a news release. The company says Billhimer also will continue as chief operating officer until a permanent president is appointed.

The company had announced in April that former president and CEO Jeffrey Dahl was resigning to pursue other business opportunities. Dahl's resignation and Billhimer's appointment were effective Monday.

MTR owns Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort in Chester, Scioto Downs in Columbus and Presque Isle Downs and Casino near Erie, Pa.

Man sentenced in Toronto meth case

STEUBENVILLE - Sean E. Householder, 35, of 1418 Madison Ave., Toronto, was sentenced to thee years in prison on Thursday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. after pleading guilty to charges in connection with a methamphetamine lab bust in Toronto on March 31.

Householder pleaded guilty to illegal assembly of chemicals in the manufacture of drugs and illegal manufacture of drugs.

Toronto Police reported the house had been under investigation for about six months prior to the raid by police, county drug task force and sheriff's department.

Steubenville man dies in Harrison wreck

JEWETT - A Steubenville man died following a rollover crash on state Route 151 in Green Township, Harrison County, between U.S. Route 22 and Jewett, around 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Honda Accord operated by Bradley H. Kincaid, 43, of 1648 Roosevelt Ave., was eastbound along state Route 151 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle went off the left side of the road at a curve, struck an embankment and overturned, a trooper said. Kincaid was ejected from the vehicle, the patrol reported.

Emergency personnel from Jewett, Cadiz, Hopedale and Harrison Community Hospital arrived on the scene. He was transported to Jewett Park and taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.

School employee charged with theft

FOLLANSBEE - A custodian at Follansbee Middle School has been arrested for allegedly taking medication from a cabinet there.

The Brooke County Sheriff's Department has charged Thomas W. Steele of 1117 Neville St., Follansbee, with petit larceny and possession of a controlled substance.

His case is pending in Brooke County Magistrate Court.

Kathy Kidder-Wilkerson, Brooke County superintendent, said Steele's status will be discussed at the June 10 school board meeting.

School board to hold special meeting

STEUBENVILLE - The city school board set a June 26 public hearing to consider the re-employment of Fred Heatherington, who is set to retire today.

Heatherington is a career-based instructor at Steubenville High School and also served as athletic director and high school baseball coach.

The public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. prior to the monthly school board meeting.
