Two arrested in city drug bust

STEUBENVILLE - Two Chicago men were arrested on gun charges and face drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop early today and a subsequent drug raid, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reported.

A deputy patrolling pulled over a car with four men inside at University Boulevard and Woodlawn Road. The deputy called for the K-9 unit of the county's drug task force. The dog detected drugs and the car was searched.

A deputy said about $20,000 in cash and two handguns were found.

The drug task force then executed a search warrant at a house on Central Court and a large amount of heroin was found, the sheriff's department reported.

Kyle M. Irvin, 28, and Charles H. Thompson Jr., 26, both of Chicago were charged with carrying a concealed weapon. The drug task force was to meet with the county prosecutor's office today for the possible filing of other charges.

The two other men in the car were allowed to leave, the sheriff's department reported.

Two arrested in robbery case

STEUBENVILLE - Two men were arrested early today in connection with a robbery at the park in Empire, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reported.

The sheriff's department reported a couple was at the park around 11 p.m. Wednesday and were robbed at gunpoint of more than $100.

The two robbers took off running, the sheriff's department. The two men, identified as Shawn Antill, 19, of 9069 state Route 213, Toronto, and Jordan Fuller, 20, of 302 Park St., Empire, were located at a house in Empire, the sheriff's department reported. No gun was recovered, a deputy said.

Charges of robbery are pending against the men, the sheriff's department reported.

Woman holds burglar at gunpoint

STEUBENVILLE - A female surprised a burglar early today and held him at gunpoint until City Police came to the house.

Police reported the resident at 982 McKinley Ave. called police around 5 a.m. saying she stopped a burglar in her house and was holding a gun on him.

Ryan Geary, 23, of 1394 1/2 Sinclair Ave. was charged with burglary and possession of criminal tools.

Two arrested following fight

STEUBENVILLE - Two people were arrested Wednesday evening after a fight that sent a woman to the hospital with a large laceration on her face, City Police reported.

Stephanie Keenan, 23, of 422 Darlington Road was charged with felonious assault. Curtis Woodland, 24, also of 422 Darlington Road was charged with disorderly conduct at an emergency scene.

Police were called to the Darlington Road home around 11 p.m. No further information was available.

Truck fire causes store evacuation

STEUBENVILLE - A cleaning company truck parked beside Wal-Mart caught fire around 10 a.m. Wednesday and forced the evacuation of the store, the City Fire Department reported.

The truck was parked next to a storage bin of empty and full propane tanks, the fire department reported.

Some smoke got into the building, but the truck fire was quickly extinguished, the fire department reported.

The store was evacuated for about 30 minutes, the fire department reported.

Cadiz yard sale set June 7-8

CADIZ - The 15th-annual Cadiz Community Yard Sale will get under way June 7-8 with sales throughout the village. Families, businesses and organizations around Cadiz are participating in the event, which is sponsored by the Cadiz Business Association.

Participants are encouraged to hold yard sales, porch sales or garage sales on the same weekend, while merchants can hold sidewalk sales and groups can schedule fundraising car washes, bake sales and other activities.

A $3 registration fee for yard sale participants ensures location, and sale information will be included in advertising and on flyers distributed that weekend. Yard sales may be held on either, or both, of the schedule days, and registration forms will be available at Ormes Hardware, Coffy's, Shurfast, DiAngelo's, Utica Safety Apparel and the Cadiz/Harrison County Visitors Center. Forms also may be downloaded from the Cadiz Business Association Facebook page. The deadline to register is Friday, and forms may be dropped off at Utica Safety Apparel on 154 S. Main St.
