Porreca nets ace

BLOOMINGDALE - Sam Porreca hit a hole-in-one on the 172-yard, par 3, sixth hole at Red Oaks. Porreca used a 5-wood.

The ace was witnessed by Gene Pool.

Big Red to hold hoops camp

STEUBENVILLE - Steubenville Big Red will host a girls basketball camp Wednesday through June 7 in the Crimson Center.

It will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon June 6-7. The cost is $20 for girls entering grades 3-8 in the fall. The cost includes a camp T-shirt, lunch and prizes.

Hoop leagues forming at Millsop

WEIRTON - Registration is under way now for teams and individuals to play in the upcoming 0-Tolerance Adult Outdoor Summer Basketball League at Starvaggi Park. It is open to all area adults ages 21-and-up in two divisions - under-30 and 30-and-over.

Play is scheduled to begin in June with games on Monday evenings. Games will be moved indoors to the Millsop Community Center in the event of rain. Registration is $300 per team or $45 per player. Roster size is limited to 10 players.

Registration is also under way for the 14th Weirton Outdoor Youth Summer Basketball League.

It is open to boys and girls in three divisions - grades 4-6, grades 7-9 and high school and graduating seniors.

Play is slated to begin June 8 and will run through mid-July on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings.

Cost is $200 for teams ($180 for multiple teams from same organization) or $40 for individuals who would be placed on teams. Special discounts are available for multiple teams or those coaching teams.

Tennis camp at Starvaggi Park

WEIRTON - A morning tennis camp is set for June 10-14 at Starvaggi Park for all boys and girls ages 7 and older.

Sandi Gajtka and Sue Wesie are coordinating the five-morning camp that will include fundamental instruction with skill games and drills from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The cost of the camp is $60 per participant with each camper required to have a tennis racquet and supply two cans of tennis balls.

Private lessons are available for students in grades 4-8.
