Charges filed in

patrol chase

STEUBENVILLE - Kevin Wells, 36, of 101 township Road 428, Toronto, is facing misdemeanor traffic charges but the Ohio State Highway Patrol is expected to seek a felony failure to comply charge through the county prosecutor's office after a chase Friday evening.

A trooper said they attempted to pull Wells over around 5:30 p.m. Friday on state Route 7, near Costonia. Wells took off on county Road 56 at speeds reaching 80 mph, a trooper said. He then turned onto township Road 376, again at a high rate of speed, the patrol reported. The trooper said Wells was going so fast that troopers lost sight of him.

The patrol had a plane in the area that was used to spot Wells, the patrol reported. Wells was unable to make a turn on the road and troopers boxed him in so he couldn't escape. Wells was charged with driving with a suspended license and reckless operation.
