Wine in the Woods fundraiser June 9

The Guglielmo Scholarship Foundation will hold the Wine in the Woods fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 9 at the Serbian Picnic Grounds in Weirton.

The event will include a Chinese auction with items including a woman's watch, photography package, hotel stays, concert tickets, a barrel of wine and baskets donated by local merchants.

The cost is $10 per person.

Weirton Legion auxiliary meets

The Weirton American Legion Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary held its monthly meeting May 20 at the Legion hall with President Shirley Brecht presiding.

Chaplain Wanda Perrone gave the invocation, and Brecht led in opening ceremonies.

Reports were given by Clara Robinson, secretary, and Loretta Robinson, treasurer.

Brecht thanked Poppy Chair Pat Folden for her work and thanked Poppy Day volunteers.

Brecht reported the Last Man Dinner was a success and that five girls will be attending Girls State. Historian Joan Spano distributed photographs.

The auxiliary is planning a dinner fundraiser in September.

Brecht won the 50/50 drawing.

The next meeting at 6:30 p.m. June 17 will be a covered-dish dinner. The 2013 officers will be installed.

Smithfield VFD plans scramble

The Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department is holding a four-man amateur golf scramble at Castle Shannon Golf Course June 15.

First place is $400, and second place is $250, with registration starting at 8 a.m. and the shotgun starting at 9 a.m. Cost is $65 per person and $260 per team.

The entry fee includes 18 holes with cart, skins pot, food, drink, door prizes and skills prizes.

There will be soft drinks, water and canned beer, with lunch on the turn and dinner to follow.
