The 36th-annual Mother's Day Breakfast honored the women of St. John Catholic Church in Wellsburg and Holy Family Church in Beech Bottom with the meal cooked by the men of the parish and served in the church hall.
Mike O'Brien, master of ceremony, introduced Ryan Weld of Wellsburg who gave a presentation on mothers. Weld, a student at Duquesne University Law School, worked in Washington, D.C., in the U.S. Intelligence Community Office in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and in 2010 volunteered for a combat deployment to Afghanistan.
A "Mother of the Year" award was presented to Nancy Reed, who recently retired after four years as the president of the Altar-Rosary Society. She attends daily Mass at St. John Church where she is the Lector. She is an alumni of St. John School, where she later was a volunteer. She is a member of the Funeral Lunch Workers, a volunteer at the church and a former Eucharistic Minister. A mother and grandmother of active members of the parish, she and her husband will celebrate their 50th anniversary in June.
Carnations were presented to the women by Matthew Camilletti in memory of his wife, Erma.
