STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce officials have unveiled the lineup for the third-annual Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival set for June 30 at Harding Stadium.

Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce President Sue Hershey announced today Phil Vassar, a singer songwriter and described as one of Nashville's top tunesmiths, will be the featured headliner at the event.

"We are delighted to have such a talented and well-known country performer as our headliner for our third Stars and Stripes concert," said Hershey.

Phil Vassar will headline the third-annual Stars and Stripes concert at Harding Stadium, part of the celebration of the Independence Day Holiday. The show will be at Harding Stadium on June 30.

She made her remarks flanked by sponsors and local officials during a press conference today at Scaffidi's Restaurant and Lounge in the Hollywood City Center.

Hollywood City Center is the title sponsor for the 2013 Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival.

Hershey said Vassar received the 2012 Distinguished Virginian Award from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters.

"Phil Vassar is very well known for his songs, 'Just Another Day in Paradise,' 'Carlene' and 'Last Day of My Life,'" noted Hershey.

"We will also have the Todd Jones Band and the Joseph Sisters performing earlier in the evening," said Hershey.

According to the Todd Jones biography, the Elrama, Pa., native has been playing his own style of country music for years.

His songs include, "Sittin' in Atlanta Station," "I Do," and recently released "Sunshine" written by the Clarks of Pittsburgh.

The Joseph Sisters of Wheeling provide audiences with a country and soul singing style of music.

They began performing at fairs, festivals and as side stage performers at Jamboree in the Hills in 2010.

"The opening ceremonies will be held at noon at the Harding Practice Field. So far we have eight vendors signed up to be at the Stars and Stripe event, and we anticipate a couple more joining us soon. A fun zone sponsored by the Fort Steuben Mall will be at the practice field area with free fun for families," Hershey continued.

"New this year will be the BMX stunt show sponsored by Jim Davis Enterprises, also at the practice field. There will be two shows that afternoon with three bike stunt performers," Hershey added.

"And in addition to our three main bands at Harding Stadium, we will also have local favorite entertainer Rose Angelica performing at the beer garden at the Kroger parking lot. We will also have a classic car show in the Harding Middle School parking lot sponsored by First Class Customs, so I am expecting a first-class show," remarked Hershey.

"There will also be a 'Capture Your Smile' photo booth. And we will have the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County Bookmobile at the practice field. At this point we are still going strong as we finalize the details of the exciting day," stated Hershey.

"The day will conclude with the annual city fireworks on the hillside behind the Hollywood City Center. That fireworks show has always been a favorite of area residents. We are once again inviting everyone to join us at the Stars and Stripes day-long event to enjoy the fun zone, the custom car show, good food, great entertainment and the fireworks as we celebrate our nation's birthday," said Hershey.

"I am very pleased and encouraged by the willingness of the community to support this event every year. The Steubenville City School District has been absolutely wonderful. We have several outstanding partners who are helping us to pull this together. We have been working on this year's Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival since last fall and it is exciting to see this all coming together," Hershey said.

"We have added to the concert and festival every year and we want to continue making the event a place where people can come at noon and stay for a full day of fun and entertainment. People can come to Steubenville to join family and friends and have a great day. The gates to Harding Stadium will open at 4:30 p.m.," explained Hershey.

Hershey said tickets for the Stars and Stripes Concert will go on sale on May 24 at Quick King stores in Steubenville, Wintersville and Toronto, as well as Quick King stores in Follansbee and Weirton. Tickets also will be available at the Peoples Bank in Adena, Dillonvale and Mount Pleasant.

"I am also pleased to announce new ticket outlets at the Fort Steuben Mall customer service center and the visitors center at the Historic Fort Steuben," Hershey cited.

"General admission tickets are $15, and reserved seat tickets are $20. On the day of the concert the general admission tickets will cost $20, and reserved seat tickets will be $25," added Hershey.

She credited John Cucarese and Tricia Maple-Damewood for leading the concert and festival committee.

But Cucarese was quick to cite the long hours put into the event planning by the committee members.

"We have a lot of volunteers who really focused on putting this event together for a third straight year. I am very happy to bring a nationally recognized country singer to our community to help celebrate the nation's birthday," commented Cucarese.

"We will get to see a first-class show right in our own backyard," he added.
