WEIRTON - The final session in a three-part health care educational series offered by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce will take place next week, and those interested in attending are reminded to get in their reservations.
The 60-minute session will take place at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Serbian-American Cultural Center, and be titled "Understanding the Individual Mandate."
The speaker for the session will be Fred Early, chief executive officer of Highmark West Virginia. Its focus will be on explaining the mandates for individuals under the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The seminar is open only to members of the Weirton chamber. The fee is $15 per person, and includes a continental breakfast. To make a reservation, which is required to attend, call the chamber at (304) 748-7212.
The series was put together by the chamber with support from WesBanco Insurance Services, Assure America and Wells Fargo Insurance Services.
Close to 50 local business representatives attended the second seminar earlier this month, which focused on the mandates for employers under the health care laws. It featured a presentation by David Fields, CEO of HealthAmerica.
The first seminar, held in March, featured Jeremiah Samples, director of health policy for the West Virginia Insurance Commission, and focused on the state's proposed health care exchange system, how it will operate and its impact on employers.
