Bruins run at Dick Dei

WHEELING - The Brooke track teams competed Saturday in the Dick Dei Invitational at Wheeling Park.

Cheyenne Hudson placed fourth in the long jump (14-10), sixth in the 200 (29.22) and seventh in the 100) 14.16, Amber Govey seventh in the 1600 (6:03.57) and 3200 (12:43.50), Calandra Olenick sixth int he 100 hurdles (18.57) and Mekenzie DeFranco second (15-5) in the long jump.

Jordan Harlan was eighth in the 400 (56.08) and 800 (2:17.48) and Matt Beaman ninth in the 1600 (5:14.94).

Fitzpatrick records an ace

RICHMOND - Wally Fitzpatrick recorded a hole-in-one at Blackmoor Golf Club. The Wellsburg resident used a 9-iron on the 130-yard par 3 third hole. The witness was Lewis Cole.

Pappas records an ace

CHESTER - Lou Pappas recorded a hole-in-one at Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course. He used an 8-iron on the 135-yard par 3 eighth hole. The witnesses were Mark Mohoroski and Bob Newbrough.

Men's tennis wins again

STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's tennis team completed an undefeated season in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference by defeating visiting D'Youville College, 9-0, Sunday. The Barons hold the top seed in next week's AMCC tournament.

Barons head coach Jeremy Ellis complimented his team's continuous ability to adjust to adversity and keep playing at a consistently dominant level.

"Their resilience has been fantastic," Ellis said. "They've been really flexible. Usually this time of year when we have some chippy weather, we don't get outside as much for practice and the guys start to rescind a little bit, but there is a lot of mental toughness this year."

FUS will face Pitt-Greensburg in the AMCC tournament at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pa.

Women's lacrosse loses

HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Lady Barons dropped a 10-4 decision at Hilbert College Saturday.

Scoring for FUS were Shannon Root, Tracy McClelland, Lauren Noce and Sarah Wampler.

"We need to have better decision making," head coach Maura Conant said. "I'm looking forward to having some rest and practice this week and to end the season on a strong note."

The Lady Barons host Baldwin Wallace at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Men's lacrosse falls

STEUBENVILLE - The Barons lost 12-2 Saturday to visiting Baldwin Wallace.

"The score does not necessarily look that much better than the first time we played," head coach Peter Rosaschi said of the Barons second match up with the Yellow Jackets. "But there were vast improvements with ball control all across the board today."

Daniel Fay scored both goals.

The Barons welcome Bethany College at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Softball drops two

STEUBENVILLE - The Lady Barons dropped a doubleheader to visiting Saturday, 18-3 and 16-0.

Sophomore Katrina Fabian put FUS on the board with a home run in the fifth inning. Freshman Hailey Wesselman followed with a double. Junior Becca Peters and senior Catherine Durand followed with RBIs.

The Lady Barons visit LaRoche College for a 3 p.m. twinbill.

Big Red moms to meet

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red football and cheerleader mothers will meet at 6 p.m. today at the Harding Middle School cafeteria. All future freshmen parents are also invited. Upcoming events for April and May will be discussed.

Creek to hold skills clinic

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek High School girls basketball program will offer a free basketball skills clinic from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 28, May 5 and May 19 for all girls in grades 5-8 in the high school gym.
