Mount Zion to mark anniversary

Mount Zion Baptist Church located at 221 N. Seventh St., Steubenville, will celebrate the 13th anniversary of Pastor Norries A. Hood Sr. during a celebration Sunday that begins at 3:30 p.m.

The event will involve a time of "praising and lifting up the Lord in song and worship" with the Rev. Walter R. Houston and his congregation of the Temple of Praise Baptist Church in Cleveland as the featured guest speaker.

The theme is "Preaching Without Restraints" taken from the New Testament's 2 Timothy 4:2.

Concert April 24

at LaBelle View

Art Bush, founder of Art Bush Ministry Inc. based in Chesapeake, Ohio, will perform in concert at 7 p.m. April 24 at LaBelle View Church of Christ located at the corner of Ohio Street and Euclid Avenue in Steubenville.

For 11 years, he traveled with the Jackson Brothers, recording five albums and releasing 16 solo recordings. An ordained minister with various awards to his credit, including the Church Growth Award and the Encourager Award, Bush ministers in many settings by using a wide variety of musical styles, including keyboards and guitars.

Church welcomes project volunteers

Follansbee Church of the Nazarene is organizing young volunteers to clean up Follansbee parks and playgrounds and encourages students needing to fulfill community service requirements and others to join them.

Pending suitable weather, the church's outreach team was to meet at 2 p.m. today at the church and gather litter and other debris at parks and playgrounds for about three hours.

The group also is making plans for cleanups on April 20 and 27.

Pasta dinner today

At Brentwood

A pasta dinner will be held today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brentwood United Methodist Church located at 148 Stephens St., Wintersville, just off Bantam Ridge Road.

The meal will include pasta, salad, bread, dessert and beverage and is by donation only.

Takeout meals will be available by calling the church at (740) 264-4531.

Mingo Women of Harmony meet

The Mingo Junction Women of Harmony of Harmony United Methodist Church held their April meeting in the church's social hall with MaryJoy VanDyne, president, presiding and reading devotions entitled "The Good Shepherd" by Billy Graham.

Ginny Howell was the leader, providing a handout entitled "Do You Know How the Apostles Died?"

Members took turns reading a description of the apostles and how they died, reminded that "our sufferings here are indeed minor compared to the intense persecution and cold cruelty faced by the apostles and disciples during their time for the sake of Christianity."

It was announced that 20 lilies had been purchased to decorate the church sanctuary for Easter and that April 28 is the last day for the church to collect nonperishable items for Urban Mission Ministries through the Feinstein Hunger Challenge.

The mother-daughter banquet will be held on May 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Power Surge will provide the entertainment. The meal will be catered by Manfred's.

The group won't meet again until September when Ethel Kerwood will be the leader and Chris Davis the hostess.

Seeds for Souls

at Greater Zion

A Seeds for Souls prayer brunch and musical is part of a two-day event May 4-5 being planned at Greater Zion Temple Church located at 500 N. Fifth St., Steubenville, where Bishop Roy Dawkins serves as pastor.

Brunch will be held May 4 from 10 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $10 and can be obtained by calling (740) 282-1046.

On May 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the church will host "Youthful Mass Praises" with area schools, adults, youth groups, choirs and soloists invited to participate. A free will offering will be taken. For information, call (740) 264-1046 or Tammy Gregory at (740) 381-5520.

A flyer promoting Seeds for Souls notes "the goal is to create an opportunity for witness and invitation to the unchurches. Please wear a white T-shirt and bring a white handkerchief. There will be a variety of gospel music throughout the event. We will be writing our prayers and placing our 'seeds' (money) and prayer requests in baskets and at the conclusion we will be offering both the prayers and papers as a burnt sacrifice to the Lord."

Sons of Second

celebration set

The Sons of Second will hold a 32nd anniversary celebration at 4 p.m. Sunday at Second Baptist Church located at 717 Adams St., Steubenville, where the Rev. Calvin McLoyd serves as its pastor.

The celebration will feature "The Family" and Pastor Travis Coon of Antioch Baptist Church in Sewickley, Pa.
