Edison blanks Creek

RICHMOND - The Edison baseball team erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 9-0 victory over Indian Creek in the season opener for both teams Monday at the Edison Athletic Complex at Jefferson Lake State Park.

The Wildcats sent 14 to the plate in the sixth.

With one out, Chance Wilkins was hit by a pitch, Dylan Glasure singled, Justin Baker singled, Josh Pacek reached on a fielder's choice, Nolan Marcus doubled (for two RBIs), Alec Jones singled and Brian Straka, Storm Allese and Wilkins walked, Glasure reached on an error and then the final two outs were recorded.

Marcus earned the mound win with 11 strikeouts and one walk. Ryan Kramarich pitched the seventh to preserve the one-hitter. Glasure and Horan singled twice.

Cole Yeater was saddled with the loss. He fanned three and walked two.

Zach Crawford singled in the third.

Indian Creek hosts Brooke today and Edison Wednesday.

Dons down Dragons

WEIRTON - Tory Fuscardo allowed a bloop single to left in the top of the sixth inning and Nick Mazur pitched a perfect seventh as the Weirton Madonna baseball team one-hit visiting Cameron and it was good enough for a 7-1 victory Monday at Bowman Field.

"Tory pitched really well," said Madonna coach T.J. Brancazio. "Our pitching continues to be a strong point early in the year. He threw strikes, located his pitches well and just did a great job for us."

Austin Pegg's single allowed the Dragons to break up the shutout.

Fuscardo fanned 10 and walked one. Mazur struck out a pair.

Michael Rogers singled twice and scored three runs for the Blue Dons.

Kaleb Baire added a single, triple and a pair of RBIs. Luca Fuscardo doubled for an RBI in the fifth inning. Will Bowser also had an RBI double.

"We hit the ball well late in the game, which was good to see," said Brancazio, whose team hosts Steubenville Central today. "We manufactured runs in the first and fourth innings.

"We are getting some nice production from the early part of our lineup.

Crusaders top Beavers

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Catholic Central baseball team got off to a strong start with a 12-2 six-inning victory over Beaver Local Monday.

Alex Porreca went the distance and gave up two hits to pick up the victory. Josh Merriman had a double and a single for the Crusaders with Johnny DiCarlantonio collecting a pair of singles.

Central (1-0) travels to Madonna today.

Panthers beat Ferry

RAYLAND - The Buckeye Local baseball team defeated Martins Ferry, 8-6, Monday.

Eric Williams picked up the win for the Panthers with Lucas Ostijich closing things out in the seventh for the save. Brian Zeroski and Eric Banal each had a single and a double with Zeroski driving in two runs. Austin Marshall also drove in a pair on a single.

WELLSBURG - The Brooke baseball team fell 16-6 to visiting Wheeling Park Monday.

Ethan Sole had a double and a single and Heath Hildreth had a pair of singles. Russell Schwertfeger, Kelaen Welch and Mario Lombardi each doubled for the Bruins.

Brooke (0-5) travels to Indian Creek today.
