Council to hold special meeting
FOLLANSBEE - Follansbee City Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Follansbee City Building to consider approval of the 2013-2014 fiscal budget.
Bergholz man stabbed, hospitalized
BERGHOLZ - A Bergholz man was stabbed in the leg early Sunday morning and was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.
According to a report from the Jefferson County sheriff's department, Ryan Cook was allegedly stabbed by his uncle Adam Cook during an altercation in Bergholz.
The incident remains under investigation today.
Gun found behind dumpster
STEUBENVILLE - A business owner on South Street found a loaded hand gun in a box behind a dumpster Sunday morning.
The city police confiscated the weapon and are investigating the incident.
Brooke County man sentenced to prison
WHEELING - A 42-year old Brooke County resident has been sentenced to 25 months in a federal prison for threatening to harm police who investigated a domestic violence complaint against him.
U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II said the defendant, James W. Richard, admitted to sending threatening letters to a Wellsburg police officer and a Brooke County sheriff's deputy while he was serving time in the Northern Regional Jail for breaking and entering, domestic assault and brandishing a deadly weapon. The two officers had investigated the offenses for which Richard had been convicted when he mailed the letters.
Richard was convicted of mailing threatening communications.
Upon completion of his 25 month prison sentence, he will be on two years of supervised release. He was remanded to the custody of United States Marshals pending his assignment to a federal institution.
Ihlenfeld said that whenever a law enforcement officer is threatened with bodily harm, his office "is going to do everything it can to make sure that those responsible for making the threats are held accountable."
Road work announced
The West Virginia Division of Highways has announced minor road work to be performed this week, pending suitable weather.
Crews will be patching state Route 67 and McCords Hill Road and ditching state Route 88 and Locust Grove East, Council Run and Castleman's Run roads.
