FUS tennis wins

WHEELING - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep over Mount Aloysius College Sunday.

"Games like these force us to be mentally tough the entire game," head coach Jeremy Ellis said. "It can be easy to get distracted and think about other things, but we pushed hard and grabbed the victory."

FUS displayed what Ellis said could potentially one of the strongest doubles teams the program has ever seen. Sophomore John Shultis and Freshman David Freytaq blanked their opponent twice winning 8-0 both times.

"They could be the best team our program has ever had," Ellis said. "It is all about clicking and they move so well together and they are only going to get better."

The Barons visit Bethany at 1 p.m. on April 4.

Men's lacrosse loses

STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-3 decision to visiting Hilbert College Sunday.

"We moved some personnel around, and the guys kind of settled down," head coach Pete Rosaschi said about the improvements and changes that were made in the second half.

Daniel Fay, Sebastin Olsen and Sean Wayne scored for the Barons.

After a weekend of games against two experienced lacrosse programs, Medaille and Hilbert, the Barons have certainly gained valuable experience. The team also grew closer together after Saturday a special ceremony that took place in between the two games.

The jersey ceremony, a tradition started by the Sports Leader program, saw the fathers of each team member express to their sons how proud they were of them and presented them with their jersey.

"The guys saw their dads and each other in a vulnerable light," Rosaschi said. "It was a great team building exercise, and we were able to come together."

The Barons will host Mount Union at 4 p.m. on April 3.
