Oil, gas committee hosting public forum

STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County's oil and gas committee is hosting a public forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to discuss pipeline land leasing and installation and other landowner questions.

Guest speaker will be Dale Arnold, director of energy services with the Ohio Farm Bureau, and Mike McGlumphy, director of Jefferson County Connections, the one-stop employment and training center in Steubenville.

Arnold works with Farm Bureau leaders to create effective energy policy on local, state and national levels, as well as to establish programs that help farm, small business and residential energy consumers control their energy costs. McGlumphy will key on the state of local employment, job opportunities in the oil and gas industry and education and training requirements.

A question and answer session will follow.

The committee, now known as GO (Gas & Oil) Jefferson County was formed in 2012 to facilitate communication between the community and the gas industry. The group meets monthly, helping commissioners stay aware of local issues and ultimately helping them maximize opportunities and minimize the risks associated with this new industry. It also strives to keep area residents apprised of job openings, training and education opportunities.

The forum is the first in what the GO committee hopes will be an ongoing informational series.
