MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Madonna High School graduate Bernadette "Bernie" Puzzuole is serving as the Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce's interim president and chief executive officer, replacing the late Sally Haas.

The 12-month appointment took effect Feb. 4, when her resignation from Rothman Gordon, P.C., took effect. Puzzole, born in Steubenville and raised in Weirton, had practiced law with Rothman Gordon for 20 years.

Puzzuole, daughter of Antoinette Puzzole and the late George Puzzuole, earned her bachelor's degree in education from West Liberty State College, graduating with honors, and her master's degree in speech communications from West Virginia University. She spent 20 years teaching in the Indian Creek Local School District, serving as president of the Indian Creek Education Association for five years.

She earned her juris doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law, graduating cum laude. She specialized in the areas of real estate, corporate and non-profit law while she was with Rothman Gordon, and was active in the Allegheny County Bar Association, chairing the Women in the Law Division in 2002-03 and co-chairing the Gender Bias Committee from 2008 to 2013.

Over the years, Puzzuole had become closely involved in the PAACC, serving as a member of the PAACC board of directors, a member of the executive committee and the first female chair of the board.

She also chaired the incubator committee for the PAACC, which is working to implement a state grant to create a business resource center in the airport corridor. Puzzuole lectured for the PAACC's Fast Trak and Core Four Business Entrepreneurs Programs, participated in the Women's Interest Network and volunteered as a teacher in the PAACC Choices program for middle school students.

"We couldn't have asked for a more capable and knowledgeable person to step up for such a challenge," said Dean Hastings, PAACC chair and Multi Print Media Inc. president. "Bernadette is a longtime board member who has worked closely with Sally for many years on some of the PAACC's most monumental initiatives, so she brings to the table a great depth of knowledge and passion regarding the PAACC mission, operations and membership. We will surely move through this transition period with more ease and fluidity with Bernadette at the helm."

Puzzuole said she was honored to have been able to work with Haas on "projects and initiatives that were so relevant to our business community."

PAACC serves 31 communities, primarily across Pennsylvania's Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Washington counties as well as Eastern Ohio and West Virginia's Northern Panhandle.
