Of March weather, feedback and bread

Given it's March, who knows what today's weather will be like.

It's a crazy month, for sure, considering last Sunday it was sunny with the temperature well into the 60s - the setting for a perfect afternoon for a get-reacquainted ride with my horse Coffee.

On this St. Patrick's Day, a day traditionally reserved for taking down my mother's Christmas tree, incidentally, I don't think it's going to be a weather repeat of seven days ago, but thank heavens it's not 20 years ago when we were recovering from the Blizzard of 1993.

That was a real doozy of a storm.

Another big snow that I'm thankful is history - and thankful I wasn't around for either, for that matter - was the Thanksgiving snow of 1950. As a frequent visitor to Jax Pizza in Richmond, I can't help but have it in my thoughts, given there's a picture on the wall of Main Street, Richmond, in its aftermath.

Whenever I'm in there waiting for an order, I sneak a peak at the snow scene and thought I'd share it with you in today's column space.

Call it motivation to think spring.

Last week's column about my "bucket list" generated some interesting feedback.

I had a call from an 85-year-old Toronto woman who said she, too, had always wanted to tap dance and did just that, beginning lessons at age 56 and being so glad that she had.

Her call made my day.

So did two e-mails.

One was an offer for a Great Pyrenees or maybe some help in finding a good home for one.

The other was an announcement for beginner ballroom dance classes being held at Eastern Gateway Community College on Saturdays from noon to 2:30 p.m. starting April 6 and ending May 11.

Wow.

Call it motivation to get started.

I gave up bread for Lent, and that has strained marital harmony in the Kiaski household.

Better Half feels guilty making sandwiches or garlic toast in my presence.

Or offering to make me French toast for breakfast on the weekends.

And I'm feeling pretty bad about it myself, come to think of it.

I didn't realize how much I liked bread until I gave it this vacation.

You'd think I be about 10 pounds lighter.

Instead, I'm just bread starved.

Call me motivated for Easter.
