To benefit the United Way, Colliers Primary School held a "Silly for Seuss" Day on March 1. For a donation of any amount, the pupils and staff could dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.
As an added incentive, if the school could raise $250, school Principal Jo-Ellen Goodall agreed to get a pie in the face. If the school raised $500, she would get "ooblecked." Oobleck is a fictional green precipitation in the Dr. Seuss book "Bartholomew and the Oobleck."
The school rose to the challenge, surpassing both goals and raising $1,000 for the United Way. During a school assembly that afternoon, five students representing each grade level were randomly selected to toss a cream pie at the principal, and five were selected to pour oobleck on her.
Wearing two shower caps, goggles, a T-shirt, sweat pants and water socks, Goodall walked into the crowded gym donned in a shower curtain robe and carrying an umbrella.
At the conclusion of the assembly, the school presented a $1,000 check to the United Way.
