STEUBENVILLE - The new owners of Fabian Formals of Hollywood are expanding their inventory, adding special occasion dresses and wedding gowns to their inventory of formal gowns and mother-of-the-bride ensembles.

Owners Diana Birch and Maria Wanchic celebrated the grand opening Thursday of the 9,000-square-foot shop, located in a newly renovated storefront in Hollywood Center. The mother-daughter duo say the upscale surroundings provide ample room to display rack after rack of gowns for proms, bridesmaids, mothers-of-the-bride and other special occasions, as well as tuxedo rentals, shoes, jewelry and other accessories.

She said the new special occasion dress lines are coming in now, and next month their new wedding collection will arrive.

GRAND OPENING — Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce President Sue Hershey, Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci Jr. and Teramana Enterprises President Dominic Teramana Jr. were among the well-wishers joining the new owners of Fabian Formals of Hollywood, Diana Birch and Maria Wanchik, at their grand opening Thursday. Birch and her daughter purchased the business in January and relocated it into the bigger, upscale storefront in the plaza previously occupied by Fashion Bug.

"It's a relaxed atmosphere," Birch said. "We want everyone to feel pampered and pretty. That's the idea behind the large, tri-fold mirrors and pedestals we chose. All girls want to get up and feel special."

Birch and her daughter purchased the business on Jan. 1.

"It was my daughter's idea," Birch said. "This is what she's always wanted to do. She loves fashion, she's always loved fashion, so when this opportunity came up, it was perfect for us."

Wanchic is hoping to see the shop grow.

"I'd like this to be the place to go to for Steubenville and the valley," she said. "I want people to come here we have everything they could want. We have everything they need - they don't have to travel very far, because it's all right here."

The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
