Blue Dons stop Wildcats

RICHMOND - The Weirton Madonna boys held a six-point lead after the opening eight minutes and slowly stretched it into a 60-51 victory at Edison Friday night.

Three Blue Dons reached double figures, led by Tyler Ewusiak and Ross Comis splitting 30 points. Will Bowser added 10.

Madonna hosts Magnolia on Wednesday.

Alec Jones paced the Wildcats with a game-high 20 points. Skylar Wilkin added 10 and Dylan Jones nine.

Edison takes on St. Clairsville in sectional tournament play on Feb. 27.

Mohigans top Redskins

WINTERSVILLE - The Morgantown boys basketball team outscored host Indian Creek 22-7 in the second quarter and rode those eight minutes to a 56-43 victory Friday evening.

Nick Colasante led the Mohigans with 14 points. Dean Marshall added 12.

Frank Kamarec and Alex Young split 28 points for the Redskins (14-7).

Indian Creek will next play at 8 p.m. Feb. 26 at Ohio University-Eastern in the Division II sectional tournament against the winner of Friday's game between Beaver Local and Harrison Central.

Bruins defeat Potters

WELLSBURG - The Brooke boys basketball team rolled to a 75-51 victory over visiting East Liverpool Friday evening at the Brooke Wellness Center.

Eric Johnson led the Bruins with a 23-point effort. Russell Schwertfeger added 18 and Thomas Cole netted 12 points.

Brooke (14-7) welcomes Oak Glen Tuesday.

Gault's bucket tops JM

TORONTO - The Toronto boys basketball team raised its record to 11-10 after a Dylan Gault putback at the buzzer defeated visiting John Marshall 53-52 Friday.

The Red Knights had four players in double digits with Gault and Tyler Owens splitting 28 points. Brad Melville delivered 11 and Blaze Glenn 10.

Toronto hosts Wellsville on Feb. 23 in what will be the final basketball game inside the George J. Kunzler Memorial Gymnasium.

The Toronto High School Athletic Department invites all Red Knight fans, former basketball players, coaches, cheerleaders, and alumni to "Lights Out Knight," a special event to celebrate Toronto High School's rich basketball history.

The evening will feature special vocal and instrumental performances by current students, recognition of former coaches and record holders, and a brief ceremony at the conclusion of the boys' varsity game to commemorate the last game.

Souvenir event tickets and programs will be handed out to fans while supplies last. Fans are asked to show their Red Knight pride by wearing red to the game.

Bears down Bellaire

BELLAIRE - The Oak Glen boys basketball team outscored host Bellaire 26-2 in the fourth quarter for a big 66-41 victory Friday night.

The Golden Bears entered the final eight minutes with a 40-39 lead thanks to a 15-11 advantage in the third quarter.

Cody Howell led the way with 16 points. Matt McLaughlin added 14 and Kyle Woodruff 10.

"Our man defense wasn't good," Oak Glen coach Dave Smith said as his team improved to 3-16. "I was frustrated with it, especially the first few quarters. We switched to zone and slowed them down a bit and Bellaire didn't shoot very well after that."

The Golden Bears head to Wellsburg on Tuesday for a meeting with Brooke.

Bulldogs nip Riders

BRIDGEPORT - The Weir High boys basketball team almost pulled one off Friday night, but the host Bridgepoprt Bulldogs held on for a 55-54 victory.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair from the start as the Bulldogs turned a 10-7 deficit after eight minutes into a 25-22 lead at halftime.

Josh Groved paced the Red Riders with 15 points. Dylan Casiadoro added 14.

CADIZ - The Martins Ferry boys basketball team led 24-6 after eight minutes and cruised to a 60-37 decision over host Harrison Central Friday night.

Cody Schau led all scorers with 30 points for the winners.

Nate Olmstead had 15 for the Huskies (14-7).

Harrison Central will play at 8 p.m. Friday at Ohio University-Eastern in the Division II sectional tournament against Beaver Local.
