Bruins lose; Knights win

WELLSBURG - One quarter made the difference Friday night.

University outscored Brooke 23-7 in the third quarter and that was the difference in a 72-63 win by the Hawks at the Brooke Wellness Center.

The teams are battling to make the top four in the Class 5A ranks for the Wheeling Hospital Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament.

University avenged an earlier to loss to Brooke.

The Bruins held a 31-27 advantage at halftime.

Travis Tomer delivered a game-high 23 points for the winners.

Russell Schwertfeger led three Bruins in double figures with 18. Thomas Cole added 14 and Eric Johnson chipped in with 13.

Brooke visits John Marshall Monday, hosts Weir High Tuesday and heads to Steubenville Big Red on Friday.

Knights defeat Lions

TORONTO - The Toronto boys basketball team got back to its winning ways with a 64-38 victory at home over East Richland Christian Friday evening.

Tyler Owens led three Red Knights in double figures with a game-high 17 points as the hosts roared out to a 37-15 halftime edge. Brad Melville collected 11 points and Blaze Glenn 10 for the winners.

Toronto (8-9) hosts Jefferson County Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Royals fall to Heartland

COLUMBIANA - The Jefferson County Christian School boys basketball team fell on the road to Heartland Christian, 51-21, Friday.

Wes Seabright led the Royals with 11 points.

JCCS (7-10) travels to Toronto Tuesday at 6 p.m.
