Waiting for the sound of the trumpet

December 23, 2012
The Herald-Star

To the editor:

Governments today sincerely try to bring about peace, but true peace is a person. This is found in the book of Isaiah 9:6, in the Old Testament, and the government shall be on his shoulder.

Today's listening ear needs to be more in tune, even in the midst of violence, war and terror, troubled times have been foretold.

Matthew, Chapter 24, tells us all about the signs. So for the moment, let's pause and digress. Why do we do this? When will the trumpet sound? The answer is given in the Scriptures, "unexpectedly" in 1 Thessalonians, 4:13-17.

Our listening ear and preparation should be ready for this voice. "For the Lord himself shall descend from the Heavens with a shout with the voice of the Archangel. And with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first, then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

With such an event as this, does the world end? No. So what happens next? God has used time like a broom. He has swept out the old and brought in the new, renovating and renewing.

Ecclesiastes 1:4 says, "One generation passeth and another cometh, but the Earth abides forever.

With the greatest ending on a positive note, he lets John the Apostle and revelator tell us under the inspiration of the spirit, "And I saw a new Heaven and a new Earth. For the first Heaven and the first Earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." (Revelations 21:1)
