Pharmacy broken into and drugs stolen

STEUBENVILLE - City Police reported an undetermined amount of narcotics was taken from A&B Pharmacy, 4201 Sunset Blvd., during a break-in around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police reported the glass on the front door was broken. The alarm was activated, but the thief was gone when police arrived. The police department reported the thief had about three minutes to enter the store, take the drugs and leave.

A police detective was called to the store to check for evidence.

Suspicious fire under investigation

STEUBENVILLE - City fire and police departments are investigating a suspicious fire Wednesday morning at a house in the 200 block of Kingston Avenue.

The fire department was called around 10:35 a.m. about a fire on the exterior of the house. The fire was located around a dryer vent, but the fire department reported there was no evidence to support the fire was associated with the dryer, the fire department reported. The fire did not spread to the interior of the house, the fire department reported.

Victim of fatal accident released

WELLSBURG - Rosemarie Pareso, 82, of Wellsburg has been identified as the woman who died following a two-vehicle collision on state Route 27 Tuesday afternoon.

The Brooke County Sheriff's Department confirmed Pareso died after being transported by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

The sheriff's department also reported the other driver, Thomas Morrisette, was transported by ambulance for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries at Ohio Valley Medical Center.

The accident, which occurred at a dip in the road near Painter Run, remains under investigation.

Highway patrol probes fatal accident

CADIZ - A truck driver from Texas was killed in a wreck around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Route 250 outside Cadiz, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Rudolf G. Fichtner, 71, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was driving a 2007 Freightliner hauling refrigerated liquid oxygen eastbound on U.S. Route 250 when it failed to negotiate a left curve, driving off the right side of the road, the patrol reported. The truck overturned sliding over an embankment, the patrol reported. Fichtner was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, a trooper reported.

The accident remains under investigation.

Parade parking limited Saturday

STEUBENVILLE - Organizers of the city's annual Christimas parade said no parking will be allowed from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday on Fourth Street from Clinton to Adams streets.

The organizers also are asking for no vehicles to be parked on Dock or Logan streets during the same time period Saturday.

The Eastern Gateway Community College Christmas parade will be organized Saturday morning in the vicinity of Steubenville High School and officially will start at noon.

The parade will proceed south on Fourth Street to Adams Street.
