WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the trophy winners from this year's Weirton Christmas Parade, which took place Nov. 24.
Sponsors of the parade were First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union, Tri-State Audiology, Weirton Medical Center and West Virginia Northern Community College.
A new feature for this year's event was a parade-ending fireworks display which was made possible through the sponsorship of Hancock County Savings Bank, Cattrell Companies, MedExpress and Marsh Pipe & Supply.
FIRST PLACE — Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort was awarded with this year’s first place trophy in the commercial float category for the Weirton Christmas Parade. Trophies can be picked up at the chamber office in Weirton during regular business hours.
A panel of judges viewed each parade participant, and awarded trophies in six categories.
The the commercial float category, Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort received first place, second place went to WTOV-TV and third place was awarded to the Weirton Christian Center.
Prizes in the non-commercial float category went to Weirton Moose Lodge 688 and Chapter 746, first place; Brenda Casey Dance Center, second place; and Hancock County 4-H, third place.
In the decorated vehicle/specialty unit category, Shadow Lane Xtreme Trick Riding received first place, second place was awarded to the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, and third place was presented to the Osiris Shrine Hillbilly Clan No. 154.
One Step Up Dance Studio won first place in the performance group category, with the Oak Glen High School Marching Band receiving second prize and Lisa Academy of the Arts awarded third place.
The Oak Glen High School Marching Band also was awarded with the prize for best band sound.
The trophies can be picked up at the Chamber office, 3174 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
