RAYLAND - Three villages in the southern part of Jefferson County have come together in the spirit of the holidays to conduct a Christmas parade that will cover about a two-mile route that will cross through Rayland and Tiltonsville before ending in Yorkville with an outdoor party.
Planning for the event began when Rayland Mayor Tammy Morelli, Jim Dougherty and Dana Brown put their heads together, labeled themselves as the YTR Community and set about to bring Christmas spirit to the three villages at the same time.
Christmas in the Villes is the theme for the parade and community gathering at the end of the long trek through the three communities that will start at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8.
Richard Bibbo, Rayland village administrator, said the parade would start at the Rayland Volunteer Fire Department and go south on Main Street to Walden Avenue in Tiltonsville. A right turn will be made onto Farm Lane, then south onto Ohio Street to Williams Street in Yorkville. Next will be a right turn onto Public Road for one block and then right again to Martha Street and then north to finish at the Warren Township Park.
That's where the Gathering in the Park will be held. Coffee and hot chocolate, cookies and pastries will be served, a 50/50 drawing will be conducted and a drawing for both a boys and a girls bicycle will be held for children under 12.
