STEUBENVILLE - The city's Fair Housing Practices Commission Monday night accepted a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission and formally accepted the Regional Housing Center to serve as a consulting firm for fair housing issues.

The planning commission had approved a new three-year contract with the Columbus-based consultant earlier this month.

According to Assistant Urban Projects Director Anthony Bodo, the Regional Housing Center has been working with the city's Fair Housing Practices Commission for the past 15 years.

The Ohio Regional Development Corp. of Coshocton also submitted a consulting proposal, but Regional Housing Center scored above the Coshocton firm on a review of the two submissions.

City Manager Cathy Davison, Urban Projects Director Chris Petrossi and Fair Housing Commission Chairwoman Gloria Crossland conducted the independent review of the two agencies.

The commission also met in executive session to discuss a new housing discrimination complaint.

The same board members also met as the Ohio Valley Fair Housing Center and agreed to retain the services of Carl White of the Regional Housing Center for no more than $9,000 a year.

White will conduct training for projects under the Jefferson County Community Development Block Grant funds as well as the Community Home Improvement Program.

The Ohio Valley Fair Housing Center represents the entire county.
