Charity Hospice's poinsettia tree is up at the Fort Steuben Mall near the Ville Restaurant beginning today and continuing throughout the holiday season. The memorial dedication ceremony will be held at the tree site at 1 p.m. Dec. 16 and will include a performance by the Steubenville High School choir.
"Although it is sad this time of the year for those who have lost loved ones, relatives and friends really enjoy seeing the names of their dearly departed on the tree as a remembrance," a Charity Hospice spokesman said. "Some people even list the names of their living loved ones as an honor to them."
Although Charity Hospice has staff and volunteers stationed at the tree to collect donations, community volunteers to assist are being sought. Volunteers will collect donations and assist patrons with filling out donation cards.
"We here at Charity Hospice want to help bereaved families get through the holiday season with some joy and remembrance of their departed loved ones," the spokesman said.
Anyone interested in volunteering at the tree site can contact Steve Seminara, director of fundraising at Charity Hospice, at (740) 264-2280.
Donations can be made at the tree site daily or by mailing a request to Charity Hospice at P.O. Box 2483, Wintersville OH 43953. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.
For donations mailed, patrons are asked to clearly print the name of their loved one and the name of the donor.
There is no set amount to have a name put on the tree.
