Make-A-Wish event helps area children

November 16, 2012
The Herald-Star

Area residents have the chance Saturday to make dreams come true for some very special children during the annual Wish Upon a Star Gala at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia.

Make-A-Wish and its volunteers work tirelessly to find ways to help children with a variety of conditions, some of them life-threatening, by granting wishes.

Those wishes have ranged from a new playset for their backyard, to a camping trip, to meeting a favorite actor or singer and or a family trip to Walt Disney World.

None of it would be possible, however, without support from local residents.

The gala is the organization's largest fundraiser of the year, bringing together hundreds for one special night featuring dinner, entertainment, as well as appearances by some of our own local children those who have seen the benefits of this organization and its work.

We wish all those involved in Make-A-Wish well with Saturday's gala, knowing our area once again will show how much it cares.

We urge our area residents to take some time to learn more about the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as well as its local efforts, and see if there is a way for you to lend a hand.

What may seem like something small to some of us can make a big difference to others.
