ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The Edison volleyball team won two of the first three sets against Buckeye 8 and Jefferson County rival Indian Creek to go up 2-1 in the two team's Ohio Division II Eastern District Sectional Co-Final Saturday night down at St. Clairsville High School.
Facing a do or die fourth set, the Redskins battled back and won the set to force a fifth and deciding one. Edison led early in the fifth set, but in the end the Redskins were able to get on a roll en route to winning the game and the match, 20-25, 25-11, 22-25, 25-14, 15-6.
With the win, Indian Creek improves to 21-3 on the season, and the Redskins advance to the Eastern District Final Thursday night at Tri-Valley High School.
"It's huge for us," Indian Creek head coach Crystal Hammack said about what winning the sectional title means to her program. "Our seniors deserve it. They have been working their tails off."
Edison ends the season at 17-7.
"It was a very-tough loss," second-year Edison head coach Leah Snyder. "The girls battled all the way through."
Saturday's co-final was the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. Both teams won two matches.
"It seemed like she changed up her game plan between the third and fourth games," Snyder said about what made the difference in the match. "It was hard to adjust."
The teams split during the regular season, and Edison defeated Indian Creek last Saturday in an OVAC Class 5A Tournament.
The match was the final one for Edison's four seniors Kylie Smith, Katie Davidson, Victoria Freeland and Hannah Johns.
