George Huscroft

HUSCROFT, George L., Jr., 84, of Steubenville, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Valley Hospice North.

He was born in Steubenville on May 14, 1928, the son of the late George L. and Elizabeth Martin Huscroft, Sr.

George was retired from the State of Ohio Dept. of Transportation as an engineer. He was Jefferson County Sheriff for two terms. He started his law enforcement career as a deputy sheriff serving under his father George L. Huscroft, Sr.

George was a member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Hill Grange, lifetime member of Jefferson County Historical Society and Pilgrim Lodge 691 F&AM.

The Huscroft family is presently the 6th generation living in Jefferson County having come from Durham, England.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley M. Woodward Huscroft.

George is survived by his daughter Cheryl A. Huscroft Bartholomew; granddaughters, Shirley Rae Ann and Amy Bartholomew, all of Steubenville; great grandchildren, Tara Bartholomew and Mikey Ray Stock.

Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home, 611 N. 4th Street, Steubenville on Monday 4-7 p.m. where services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Bill Brown officiating.
