The Herald-Star

RICCI, Cecelia Martha Pinciaro, a longtime resident of Steubenville, died October 12 in Yorba Linda, CA., at age 98.

For 51 years, she was the wife of Ralph Ricci, a department manager at Weirton Steel Corp., who died in 1991. They had three children, Virginia Ricci(Paul) Monseau, of The Villages, FL.; James, of Los Angeles; and Thomas (Judy), of Yorba Linda, all of whom survive her.

"Sis," as everyone called her, was a proud, upbeat and energetic woman who attended to her own needs until a few weeks before her death.

She walked without a cane or other assistance, and participated enthusiastically in the entertainment activities at Sunrise Senior Living Center of Yorba Linda, where she resided the past three years.

At weekly singalongs, she could be heard above other residents, singing in a loud, clear voice, and always in tune. She was a regular at bingo games, and won so often she sometimes expressed embarrassment over it. She did crossword puzzles every day, because, as she said, "it keeps my mind sharp." She also loved to read magazines and romance novels, and to crochet. The kitchens and bedrooms of her children and grandchildren boast washcloths, baby blankets and large, colorful afghans that are the products of her hands.

She was born Ersilia Pinciaro in Keewaton, Minn., on May 7, 1914, the daughter of Luigi and Josephine Lancia Pinciaro. Early teachers, she said, Anglicized her first name to "Cecelia." When she was a small child, her family moved to Steubenville, where she lived until 2001. That year, she moved to California to live with son Thomas and his wife, Judy D'Aurora Ricci, originally of Follansbee.

Cecelia was a devout Catholic, frequent communicant, and daily reciter of the rosary. In Steubenville, she had belonged to St. Anthony Church, and, later, to Holy Family Church.

In addition to her children, she leaves seven grandchildren, Thomas Andrew Ricci; Michele Monseau; Aaron Ricci; Jennifer Monseau Holibaugh; Laura Ricci; Anne Ricci Hiatt; and Michael Ricci; and 11 great-grandchildren, Thomas R. Ricci; Nicholas Ricci Stein; Andrew Ricci; Celia Ricci Stein; Seraphina Ricci; Joseph Ricci; Brynn Holibaugh; Dominic Ricci; Gabriel Ricci; Miranda Holibaugh; and Emma Hiatt.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Daniel and Baldino Pinciaro, and sisters, Angela Pinciaro Asiano, Erma Pinciaro Ufolla, and Helen Pinciaro Ricci.

Calling hours are from 6- 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. Funeral mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, at Holy Family Church in Steubenville, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities, 422 Washington Street, Steubenville, OH 43952.
