’Cats defeat Big Red in three

STEUBENVILLE - The Edison volleyball team defeated Big Red 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 Tuesday at the Crimson Center.

For the Wildcats, Kylie Smith had three points and six digs; Katie Davidson had five points, four kills, 18 assists and five blocks; and Hannah Johns had six points and four kills.

Katelyn Pollock added six points, 10 kills and two blocks, with Caitlyn Brenstuhl adding 11 points, six kills, 18 assists, three blocks and three digs.

Alexis Gill had eight kills and five blocks and Cassady Jarvis had four points, five kills and seven blocks.

Big Red (8-12) received four kills, 10 assists, and three blocks from Abby Taylor with Taylor Young adding four points, four kills, five assists and two digs, and Annie Nehrbas contributing five points, three kills and seven blocks.

Brittany Bodo had three kills and two digs, Mytia Barker had nine points and two kills and Carmie Biasi had two points and eight digs.

Riders stop Blue Dons

WEIRTON - The Weir High volleyball team defeated city-rival Madonna 25-21, 15-25, 25-18, 25-14 Tuesday.

The Red Riders' Erin Hawthorne had 10 digs, Samantha McCartney had 28 sets, Elizabeth Kush had five kills, Morgan Goff had five digs and Michayla Dobosz had one kill.

Haley McLaughlin had seven digs, 34 sets, two kills and three aces; Kimberlyn Persina had 22 kills, two aces and two blocks; Selena Wolverton had six kills, 13 aces and two digs; and Lauren Rosnick had two kills, three digs and 17 aces.

For the 19-1 Blue Dons, Nicolette Sellitti had 10 aces, six kills and four blocks, Dylan Fenske 16 assists and nine aces, Monica Bragg seven kills and two blocks and Katie Kramer three aces and two digs.

Amanda Paul added five digs, Gabrielle Sellitti two aces, Maddie Burchill three digs, Emily Pietranton two digs and Taylor Thompson one ace.

The teams will tee it up again next Tuesday at Weir High for the city championship.

Weir tops University

WEIRTON - The Weir High boys soccer team came back from a 2-1 halftime deficit to defeat University 3-2 Tuesday at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

The Red Riders (14-2-2) received a goal and an assist each from Ryan Duke and Shane Davis. Chad Hensley added a goal and Alex Hannah had an assist. Matt Tenaglio had 15 saves in the win.

University (10-4-4) saw Max Bridges and Eric Tennant each score a goal with Bryce Kukura and Sven Wermuth each dishing out an assist. Shane Thompson had 14 saves.

Weir travels to Linsly Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.

Redskins fall to Cadets

MINGO JUNCTION - The Indian Creek boys soccer team fell 9-0 to Linsly Tuesday.

Matthew and Zack Barker combined in net for the Redskins with Matthew Barker saving eight shots and Zack Barker turning away two.

The Cadets received two goals each from Tim Chung and Jamal Ebanks with Lucas Laurentz, Ben Moreno, Weston Meade, Ben Posin and Nick Kniyanjui each adding a goal. Jason Mull had three saves in goal.

Indian Creek (2-8-4) plays again Saturday when it hosts Jefferson County Christian School in a game to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

Oak Glen beats East Liverpool

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen girls soccer team beat East Liverpool 2-1 Tuesday at the Bears' Den.

The Golden Bears (8-8-1) scored when Alex Burch put in a Cassandra Deremer assist and Megan Collins put in a Jenna Mason pass. Casey Highfield turned away 16 shots to preserve the win.

Anna Guildoo scored the Potters' (7-8) goal on a Nicole Linkous assist. Chelsea Possage had 11 saves in the loss.

Oak Glen plays again Saturday at Cambridge.

Golden Bears sweep Patriots

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen volleyball team swept Wheeling Park 25-13, 25-6, 25-19 Tuesday.

Sydney Kell had 14 points, 20 assists and three digs; Vanessa Hissam had seven kills; Morgan Poling had 10 points, seven kills, seven blocks and two digs; Lacee Porter had seven points, two aces, eight kills, and three digs; Abby Tice had 16 points, five aces and eight digs; Jessica Stivason had five kills and three blocks; Kaitlyn Smith had five digs; Carissa Williams had four points and 34 assists; and Madison Juszczak had three kills for the Golden bears.

Brooke blanks Edison

WELLSBURG - The Brooke girls soccer team defeated Edison 4-0 at the Brooke Athletic Complex.

Michaela Hinerman led the Bruins with a pair of goals with Kirsten Minger and Shelby Cronin each adding one. Cheyenne Hudson had two assists while Lauren Altobell and Sarah Hardsock each had one. Marena Cline had one save in the shut out.

Edison netminder Jen Sheets had 15 saves in the loss.

Big Red boys top Wheeling Central

STEUBENVILLE -The Big Red boys soccer team defeated Wheeling Central 7-3 Tuesday at Harding Stadium.

Stefano Lanni had a hat trick to lead Big Red. Michael Rosaschi added a goal and a pair of assists with Brandon Llewellyn and Jorge Dominguez each adding a goal and an assist. Jason Criss scored a goal and Dominic DiCarlo had and assist. John Paul Duff had 10 saves in the win.

The Maroon Knights had goals from Daniel Lee, Pablo Lopez, and Zach Medovic. Goalie Ryan Bartsch had 18 saves.

Big Red (8-5-2) takes on Carrollton Thursday at 6 p.m.

Big Red girls lose to Wheeling Central

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red girls soccer team lost 2-0 to Wheeling Central Tuesday at Harding Stadium.

Big Red goalie Loren Gray had had six saves in defeat.

Cate Callissie and Aspen Matlock each had a goal for the Maroon Knights with Ashton Cross adding an assist. Regan Blaha had three saves.
