WINTERSVILLE - Three area residents will be honored for their service to the public at the Brooke-Hancock-Jefferson Metropolitan Planning Commission's 14th-annual awards dinner on Oct. 10 at St. Florian Hall.
John Chernenko, Thomas Graham and Victor Greco will be presented awards at the dinner, which will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

The BHJ Volunteer Award will be presented to Greco, a founding member of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center who also played a key role in reviving the Weirton Festival of Nations.
The BHJ Special Recognition Award will be given to Graham, a long-time Jefferson County commissioner and member of various boards, including the planning commission, which he currently chairs.
The Bernie Kazienko Public Service Award, which has been re-named this year in honor of the late Brooke County commissioner, will be presented to Chernenko.
A World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Chernenko served as a U.S. marshal and state senator for many years and is involved with the Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation and Barbed Wire Chapter of Ex-POWS.
