Dean H. Shepherd

SHEPHERD, Dean H., 84, of Bergholz, OH, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at the Carroll Golden Age Retreat following a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Amsterdam, OH, a son of the late Franklin and Myrtle Irene (White) Shepherd.

Dean retired from Titanium Metals in Toronto and had served in Germany with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime member of the Amsterdam VFW Post 232.

He was a long time member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years as secretary/treasurer and was founder of the Fire Department Bingo.

He is survived by his son, George Shepherd and wife, Mary of Bergholz and daughter, Anna Marie and her husband, Russ Kleiner of East Springfield; grand children, Dean Wiley, Josh Kleiner, Chelsey Justine Byron, Jason Keffer, Tara Givens and Nathaniel Shepherd; great-grand children Rilee and Drake Givens; his brother, Ray Shepherd and wife, Peggy of Amsterdam and two sisters, Audrey Kapelewski and Marion Abel all of Carrollton.

Dean's greatest hobby was being Grandpa to his grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 287 Second St. Bergholz on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m.. Pastor Dave Miller will officiate and burial will follow in the Harlem Springs Cemetery with full military honors.
