Elma Jeans

JEANS, Elma Maxine (Cook), 97, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Toronto, OH, passed away September 20, 2012, in Lakeland, FL.

Elma was born on July 18, 1915 in Howesville, WV, to parents, Thomas Ross and Nellie V. (Craig) Cook.

She was a long-time Toronto, OH, resident. Elma was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church in Toronto and also a member of various clubs and organizations including Nifty Sixties, Buckeye Club and Mingo Junction Senior Citizens.

She was an avid western- style square dancer and traveled around the country with her husband in state and national square dance groups and put on shows at various fairs and functions. Elma belonged to square dance clubs in Weirton, Follansbee, Steubenville and Wintersville including Dip and Dive and Spinning Gears. As a homemaker, she kept her family full with her delicious chocolate and peanut butter fudge.

Elma leaves behind many surviving family members including her daughter, Emma B. McClain and her husband, James, of Toronto, OH; daughter, Shirley E. Riggleman and her husband, Ronald, of Toronto, OH; son, Harry C. Jeans and his wife, Janie, of Wilmington, NC; son, Frederic E. Jeans and his wife, Delores, of Avon Park, FL; brothers, Robert P. and George L. Cook, both of Morgantown, WV; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene C. Jeans, in 1979; her father, Thomas Ross Cook; her mother, Nellie V. Cook; her brothers, Carl, Thomas Ross, Jr., Duane and Leon Cook; and her long time friend Irene McCauslen.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26 at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto. 740- 537-1234 or 855-847- 1240.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 27 at Riverview United Methodist Church in Toronto, OH. A funeral service will be held after the calling hours at 1 p.m. at the church with Pastor Josh Elliott conducting the service. Interment will follow at the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, OH.
