Brooke GOP to hold dinner

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Republican Party Executive Committee will hold its annual Reagan Day dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Wellsburg First Presbyterian Church, 901 Charles St.

Local and state candidates have been invited to appear at the informal "indoor picnic," which will include a buffet chicken dinner.

Retail sales increase again

STEUBENVILLE - Retail sales in Jefferson County increased more than 8 percent in July compared to the same period last year.

Jefferson County Treasurer Raymond M. Agresta said retail sales for July totaled $65.49 million, generating $982,370 in piggyback sales tax revenue for the county. Agresta said piggyback sales tax receipts for July 2011 generated $903,306, based on retail sales of $60.22 million.

Retail sales in Jefferson County have averaged $62.12 million a month this year, compared to $55.94 million a month during 2011.

911 board changes meeting date

STEUBENVILLE -The Jefferson County 911 board has changed its next meeting to 6 p.m. on Monday.

The meeting will be held in the 911 Emergency Operations Center, located in the 911 center at the Jefferson County Airpark.

Scrabble session set for Wednesday

STEUBENVILLE - Area Scrabble enthusiasts will gather Wednesday for their monthly game session in room 1502 at Eastern Gateway Community College.

Play time will run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with newcomers welcome and encouraged to bring the board game if they have one. No fees are charged.

Bonus words will be words related to autumn harvest.

Open house at Richmond museum

RICHMOND - The summer series of open houses at the Crew House Museum at 34 W. Main St. will conclude Sunday, with guests welcome to tour the facility from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Richmond Community Historical Society, which is preparing for its annual Quaker Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at the museum.

WSX Management club to meet

WEIRTON - The Weirton Steel Management Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Giovanni's Restaurant, former Gio's Family Restaurant, in the banquet room.

All members and former members are invited.

Harrison Democratic committee sets picnic

CADIZ - The Harrison County Democrat Central and Executive Committee will host a family picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sally Buffalo Park.

"The picnic is a great opportunity to get together to discuss our common goals and concerns," stated Sherri VanTassel, chairperson.

The picnic includes an auction of items, drawings and door prizes.

Information will be available on different topics of interest in the upcoming election, there will be a chance to speak with the candidates, and representatives of Organizing for America will be present. Sample ballots and yard signs also will be available at the event.
