ARCHANGEL, Carmen Joseph, Sr., 95, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012.
Born on July 16, 1917, Carmen was a lifetime resident of Steubenville, OH, a first-generation Italian- American and a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1937. He was a former employee of the Biggio Auto Company and founding member of Holy Family Church. Carmen was an avid bowler and past- president of the Sons of Italy Lodge 705 for many years. Also known by his nickname, "Merks", Carmen was a charming and charismatic person who had many, many friends in his lifetime. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 33. He was a loyal fan of the Steubenville Crusaders, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NY Yankees.
Carmen is preceded in death by his parents, Annina (Franciotti) (Archangel) Tatonetti and Michele Archangel, and step-father, Erminio Tatonetti; brothers, Anthony and Victor Archangel, step-sister, Mary (Tatonetti) Marino and son-in-law, Raymond Lelli. He is survived by his children, Margaret Archangel (David Heck) of Mason, OH; Carmen (Rebecca) Archangel Jr. and Michele Archangel-Lelli both of Wintersville, OH; granddaughters, Rene' Lelli, Andrea (Paul) Ray, Annie Heck, Alexandra Heck; great-grandsons, Alex and Adam Ray; brother-in-law, John Marino of Columbus, Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews including Char Biacco, Dianne Brown, Janet Seehafer, Robert Pinti, Marian Neeper, David Archangel and Nancy Archangel. He also leaves behind his loving and devoted companion, Anna.
Calling hours are Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville.
A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
