STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and WTOV-TV have joined with the Steubenville Visitors Center to plan the city's annual Christmas parade set for noon on Dec. 8.
"The visitors center has managed the parade in the past but this year the chamber and WTOV are working with us to make this a special day. And we are pleased to announce WTOV-TV will broadcast the parade live from downtown Steubenville," explained visitors center Director Judy Bratten.
"We have had additional help in organizing from Franciscan University of Steubenville and Eastern Gateway Community College. The Steubenville Lions Club will again be working on the line-up on the day of the parade. And of course Santa Claus has already agreed to be part of the festivities," added Bratten.
Bratten said organizations, companies, schools, bands or dance units are invited to enter a unit reflecting the parade theme, 'Sights and Sounds of Christmas.'
"There is no fee required to enter a unit in the parade. Entry forms can be obtained by contacting Anita Jackson at email@example.com or myself at judy@oldfortsteuben. The entry forms are due by Nov. 27," said Bratten.
Jackson said bands from Catholic Central High School, Steubenville High School, Harding Middle School and Weir High School have agreed to be in the parade.
"We want to make this the best parade we have had in years," Jackson said.
"Businesses, schools, organizations or individuals that would like to be a parade sponsor can obtain details about the advertising packages from the chamber of commerce at (740) 282-6226 or at info@jefferson countychamber.com," Bratten noted.
"Organizations interested in having a float in the parade but don't have time to build a float can contact Creative Floats to rent a float for $600. If Steubenville parade participants rent five or more floats, the renters will receive a $25 discount. Information about Creative Floats is available by calling Mark Aksterowicz at (330) 432-3449 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. The company provides delivery and set up," Bratten said.
Bratten said the parade will start on North Fourth Street at Steubenville High School and proceed south to Adams Street to South Third Street and back to the high school.
"That means people can watch the parade on Fourth Street or Third Street," she said.
"We want this to be a great day for the whole community, a wonderful kickoff for the holiday season and a chance for everyone to work together," stated Bratten.
