Adena receives grant
for water system
ADENA - The village has been informed by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, of a $250,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission that will help in the rehabilitation of several major components of its water treatment plant and a sewage pump station that serves eight businesses, one school and 331 households.
"Ohio's rural communities and small towns face a heavy burden when financing infrastructure projects," Brown said. "This improvement project will provide residents with a modern water system that improves water quality and encourages investment in the village of Adena."
The current water distribution system, dating back to the 1960s, is in poor condition and no longer operates effectively, Brown said. The current system often floods, which damages the plant and halts operations, according to Brown's office. In addition to ARC's $250,000 grant, state and local sources will provide an additional $1,929,575 to complete the renovation project.
