Bruins outshoot Red Riders, Redskins

WEIRTON - The Brooke golf team cruised to a tri-match win over Weir and Indian Creek Monday at Williams Country Club. The Bruins shot 168 to the Red Riders' 192 and the Redskins' 195.

Brooke's Logan Lojszczyk earned medalist honors with a 37, with Austin Schambach shooting a 41. Cody Dodd and Eric Kenny each shot 45 for the Bruins.

Vince Gaudio led Weir with a 43 while Zack Midcap and Tyler Warrick each shot 47. Alex Creole shot a 55 to round out the Red Riders' scoring.

Indian Creek's Adam Freshwater led his squad with a 47. Ian McIntosh and Cole Yeater each added a 48 and Aaron Foldi shot 52 for the Redskins.


Weir blanked by Linsly

WHEELING - The Weir girls soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Linsly Monday.

The Lady Riders used two goalies with Alyssa Kelly saving 16 shots and Raegan Stead stopping a pair of shots.

The Cadets received two goals from Jordan Burkle and one a piece from Gift Chima and Maggie France. Morgan Brunner had 3 saves in net.


Madonna sweeps Linsly

WHEELING - The Madonna volleyball team earned a sweep at Linsly, 25-15, 25-5, 25-17 Monday.

The Lady Dons (8-0) received eight aces, 17 assists and three attacks from Dylan Fenske; seven aces, three attacks and three kills from Nicolette Sellitti; four aces and three digs from Emily Pietranton; three aces and three digs from Katie Kramer; two attacks and four kills from Monica Bragg; three aces and two kills from Gabrielle Sellitti; seven digs from Amanda Paul; and two digs Gianna Anile.

Toronto falls to


MCMECHEN - The Toronto volleyball team fell to Bishop Donahue 25-6, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16 Monday.

"When you don't play at a consistent level of play throughout a set you cannot win," said Toronto head coach Chelsey Fletcher. "When these young women find a deep meaning of mental toughness and the concept of finishing they will find success on the court."

The Red Knights (0-5) saw Cari Horne net five kills, four aces and two digs, with Katie Spadafora adding four blocks and three kills, Taylor Linn five assists and Miranda Robinson four assists.

Toronto returns to the court Wednesday against Bellaire St. John.

Redskins sweep


RAYLAND - The Indian Creek volleyball team claimed a straight set victory at Buckeye Local 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 Monday.

The Redskins (5-1) received an 11 kills, 11 digs, two aces performance from Whitney Martin; 14 kills and two blocks from Bre Berryman; with 30 assists, 12 digs and two kills from Jessica Furda. Brey Mays had 14 digs, four kills and two aces, and Kiarra Kamarec added six kills and three digs. Mallorie Sullivan added eight digs and Ali Collaros had five digs.

The Panthers received seven kills and five assists from Becca Rector; eight points and eight digs from Morgan Staten; five assists from Amy Balk; and four kills from Kierstyn Czurchan. Kaylee DeCesare added 11 digs, three points and two assists.

Weir defeats Brooke

WELLSBURG - The Weir volleyball team defeated Brooke 25-21, 30-28, 25-19 Monday at the Brooke Athletic Complex.

For the Red Riders Erin Hawthorne had three kills, 25 digs and three aces; Samantha McCartney had three digs and 31 sets; Haley McLaughlin had 11 digs, 29 sets and six aces; Kimberlyn Persina had eight kills, three digs and five blocks; Selena Wolverton had seven kills, four digs and two aces; Elizabeth Kush had five kills and three digs; Morgan Goff had seven digs; Michayla Dobosz had two kills and four digs; and Lauren Rosnick eight digs.

For the Bruins Angela Staffileno had eight kills, seven blocks and three digs; Sam Mazzone nine assists, two aces and two digs; Brooke Murdock two kills, three assists, six aces and two digs; Isabella Preston three kills and five digs; Kourtney Leonard five kills and two blocks; Tiffany Rosnick two kills and three digs; and Emiley Stuck 14 digs.

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Edison volleyball team fell in four sets at Oak Glen 25-22, 23-25, 26-24, 25-12 Monday.

For the Wildcats Kylie Smith had three digs and four points; Katie Davidson 12 points, two aces, three kills, three blocks and three digs; Katelyn Pollock nine points, eight kills, six blocks and two digs; Cassady Jarvis four kills and 10 blocks; Caitlin Brenstuhl six points, two blocks and two digs; Hannah Johns three points and three kills; Maddie Williamson two digs; and Alexis Gill four blocks.
