103rd birthday

Ethel Smith, a resident of Martha Manor in Steubenville, is celebrating her 103rd birthday today.

She was born Sept. 10, 1909, and is a graduate of the Steubenville Business College. She worked at Stanton Motors and Franklin Machine. She and her husband, Robert Smith, were married Oct. 12, 1927. They had two children, Marlene, who is deceased, and Robert. Bingo and reading are her hobbies.

MS support group

meets Thursday

The Weirton-Steubenville Multiple Sclerosis support group will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Serbian American Cultural Center in Weirton.

Discussion will include the "Absence of Hope" and the upcoming yard sale at Eastern Gateway Community College on Saturday.

Anyone with MS, their family and friends can attend the meeting.

CampFire USA

registration set

CampFire USA will have open registration for girls and boys in grades three through six and also for ages 4 to 6 on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Lee Avenue, Weirton.

The cost to join is $25 for a one-year membership. This is for Brooke and Hancock counties only.

Satellite vets

office open

The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Toronto American Legion, 415 Market St., Toronto, to assist veterans, dependents of veterans, and veterans' widows with Veterans Administration pensions, compensations, burials, schooling, medical assistance and other veterans' benefits.

Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is closed every Wednesday afternoon to the public.

Brooke Democratic

women to meet

The Brooke County Federation of Democratic Women will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Follansbee Library.

Local and state candidates will be on hand to field questions regarding the upcoming election.

All women 18 and older are invited to join. Membership dues are $10 a year.

Veterans group

meets Wednesday

The regular monthly meeting of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the War Memorial Building, 423 North St., Steubenville. All veterans or interested parties are welcome to attend.

RASCAL clinic

coming Oct. 6-7

The Brooke County Animal Welfare League will hold a spay and neuter Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low Cost (RASCAL) clinic for cats and dogs Oct. 6-7 at the Jefferson County Airpark.

Immediate pre-payment is required. There will be no walk-in services or vaccinations available. Appointments are not limited to Brooke County residents. Any interested pet owner can make an appointment by calling (304) 374-4443.
