CHESTER - A 23-year-old Chester man was killed and three other men were injured in a single-vehicle accident early Sunday on Middle Run Road.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Department on Sunday didn't release the names of the deceased man or the three injured men who were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

According to the sheriff's department, the four were in a pickup truck that overturned near the intersection of state Route 208 outside of Chester at about 2:27 a.m.

According to police reports, the driver, a 22-year-old Chester man, told deputies he was westbound on Middle Run Road when he swerved to avoid a deer. The truck sideswiped a guardrail on the driver's side, slid on its side and off the shoulder of the south side of the road and veered over a culvert, struck the passenger side and rolled over, coming to rest on the driver's side.

The man who was a passenger in the truck was killed by his injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to reports. The driver and two men who had been riding in the bed of the truck and were thrown from it were transported by the Chester-Newell Ambulance Service and Tri-County Ambulance Service for treatment.

The two men in the back of the truck were a 22-year-old from Chester and a 23-year-old from New Cumberland.

Chester Police and the Lawrenceville and New Manchester fire departments also responded to the accident.
